ABOUT COURSE

Quba Weekend Intensive

Bearing the same name as the masjid which symbolized the beginning of the Madani era, the Quba Weekend Intensive has been designed for young adults (brothers and sisters), full-time university students, working professionals, and anyone else looking to begin their pursuit of knowledge. Over the duration of one year (15-18 credit hours), students will be introduced to core subjects of the Islamic paradigm and will develop a rudimentary level of Islamic literacy. They will learn the basic skills required to thrive as Muslims in the western world by studying subjects such as ‘aqidah (creed), tafsir (exegesis), tajwid (recitation), fiqh (jurisprudence), and the Arabic language. Students can expect to enhance their comprehension of Islamic theory.

An essential characteristic of traditional Islamic instruction, which distinguishes it from the secular sciences, is ensuring that abstract knowledge is put into practice within a student’s life. Thus, efforts will be made towards spiritually uplifting students, such that they will participate in regimented programs of dhikr, under the tutelage of their mentors. Using the Quran and Sunnah as blueprints of reformation, they will learn of spiritual diseases, their treatments, and the significance of connecting themselves with the saints of the past and present. In this way, students will find themselves traversing the paths of tazkiyah (reformation) and suluk as a complement to the core academic curriculum. To demonstrate the relevance of studied sciences to the present world, the Quba Weekend Intensive will also offer various workshops and seminars. These topics will be presented by notable scholars from across North America, in an effort to highlight the varying nature of modern issues. Ultimately, students will gain an appreciation of contemporary scholarship, while identifying outlets through which they may have their pertinent questions answered. In keeping synthesis between Madani Academy’s various programs, successful completion of the Quba Weekend Intensive will offer students who wish to continue their studies the opportunity to transfer credits into the year-long Yathrib Intensive.
